School Improvement Plan


Goal: All   students will improve in reading comprehension and critical thinking skills across all curricular areas.
Intervention #1- Students will demonstrate fluency in reading aloud and comprehension of oral and written materials. Intervention #2- Students will participate in and demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking skills in Language Arts. Intervention #3-Students will participate in and demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking skills in Math, Science, and Social Studies.

Activities   to Implement the Intervention

 

  1. Students will be given a minimum of 15 minutes planned, sustained silent reading time each week in homeroom.
  2. Students will apply comprehension knowledge through bi-weekly guided reading lessons at all grade levels in core        curricular areas.
  3. Students will be given frequent opportunities to practice fluency in reading in core curricular areas, including use of Reader’s Theater and Accelerated Reader.
  4. Students will be able to demonstrate comprehension of materials read through various written activities (book reports, essay questions, oral tests, etc.).
  5. Students will be able to transfer newly acquired skills beyond the classroom setting (field trips, life skills,        etc.)

Activities   to Implement the Intervention

 

  1. Students will be able to identify and apply the problem solving components of literary elements at individual skill levels.
  2. Students will be able to engage in activities        using higher level thinking skills through research.
  3. Students will be able to identify problems in writing conventions.
  4. Students will be able to identify and correctly use parts of speech in a sentence.

Activities   to Implement the Intervention

 

  1. Students will have a working knowledge of unit vocabulary terms in all subject areas.
  2. Students will be able to solve complex mathematical problems using 4-step problem solving strategy.
  3. Students will be able to explore solutions to problems using the scientific method process.
  4. Students will become critical thinkers who can solve problems, work together, and make decisions using relevant skills in each of their grade level social studies standards.
